Classic Stage Company
Classic Stage Company is the award-winning Off-Broadway theatre that re-imagines the classical repertory for a contemporary American audience. The company presents plays from the past that speak directly to the issues of today. Their unique space and intimate staging enables artists and audiences to experience classics up close. Since its inception in 1967, Classic Stage Company has been repeatedly honored with awards and nominations from the Obie, Lucille Lortel, Henry Hewes, Artios, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Off-Broadway Alliance, and Drama League Awards, and has earned wide critical acclaim for its consistently high-quality work. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Managing Director Jeff Griffin, they strive toward four fundamental goals: explore celebrated classics and worthy neglected works; bring together established and emerging artists to collaborate and grow; sustain and expand the audience for classical theatre in New York City and the tri-state area; and honor the classical tradition by nurturing new works inspired by the great stories of the past. With these goals in mind, they produce a full roster of high-quality productions, parallel series, and educational programming that makes classical theatre accessible to an average of 35,000 theatregoers each season, including more than 4,000 middle- and high-school students.
Classic Stage Company will present student matinees and evening performances of The Comedy of Errors, as part of their Young Company education program. The company will provide related educational activities, including workshops, discussions, and a study guide. They anticipate reaching 35 schools located in New Jersey and New York.
