April 23, 2008 - National Endowment for the Arts Announces 2008-2009 Shakespeare for a New Generation Grants
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) today announced that 40 nonprofit, professional theater companies will receive grants to participate in Shakespeare for a New Generation from June 1, 2008-May 31, 2009. Part of the NEA's Shakespeare in American Communities initiative, Shakespeare for a New Generation targets middle and high school students, introducing young people to the power of live theater and the masterpieces of William Shakespeare. Managed by Arts Midwest, the program already has benefited more than one million students and their teachers with live performances and educational activities. Read more...


April 23, 2007 - National Endowment for the Arts Announces Participating Theater Companies for 2007-2008 Shakespeare for a New Generation Program
The National Endowment for the Arts today announced that 35 theater companies will participate in its 2007-2008 Shakespeare for a New Generation program. Shakespeare for a New Generation , part of the Arts Endowment's Shakespeare in American Communities initiative, strives to introduce America's youth to a lifelong engagement with the power of live theater, the wonders of the English language, and the masterpieces of William Shakespeare. Each of the participating companies will receive $25,000, for a total of $875,000, to present performances and accompanying educational activities for students. May 2, 2006 - National Endowment for the Arts Announces Participating Theater Companies for 2006-2007 Shakespeare for a New Generation Program
The National Endowment for the Arts today announced 36 theater companies participating for 2006-2007 in its acclaimed Shakespeare for a New Generation program. Shakespeare for a New Generation, part of the Arts Endowment's Shakespeare in American Communities tour, specifically targets middle and high school students. Each of the participating companies will receive $25,000 for a total federal investment of $900,000. Read more...


May 12, 2005 - National Endowment for the Arts Expands Shakespeare for a New Generation to Introduce More Students to Magic of Live Theater
The National Endowment for the Arts today announced the participating theater companies for the third phase of its acclaimed initiative Shakespeare in American Communities and the second year of Shakespeare for a New Generation. With the number of companies involved in the program expanding from 21 in 2004 to 35 in 2005-06, 35 grants will be awarded totaling $975,000. Read more...


August 30, 2004 - National Endowment for the Arts Brings Shakespeare to Military Bases
The National Endowment for the Arts announced today the launch of the Shakespeare in American Communities Military Base Tour. Through a unique partnership, the Arts Endowment is collaborating with the Department of Defense to bring the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and its production of Macbeth to 13 U.S. military bases. January 8, 2004 - The National Endowment for the Arts Announces Second Phase of Shakespeare Initiative
The National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Dana Gioia announced today to the Shakespeare Theatre Association of America a new component to the Arts Endowment's successful national initiative, Shakespeare in American Communities. The National Endowment for the Arts hosted a lively event on Capitol Hill last evening to celebrate Shakespeare in American Communities - the largest tour of William Shakespeare's plays in our nation's history - with members of Congress, Hill staffers and students. U.S. Representatives and two groups of public school children participated in the evening's entertainment, performing skits and recitations to honor the greatest playwright in the English language. The National Endowment for the Arts today announced the "Players' Guild," a group of celebrated arts experts and actors who will lend their support to the Shakespeare in American Communities project.
